Jackie's Story
We were out for a quiet drink, left my drink on a table - my partner was chatting to other people – and went inside BRIEFLY for some reason. I returned and finished my drink. I even ordered another.
And then SUDDENLY the drug took effect. Again, I suddenly felt odd, very inebriated, nauseous and light headed. Within SECONDS of feeling like that I had to bolt outside because I realised I was going to vomit. But it wasn’t a “normal” vomit. It felt like I’d lost control of my body. As I continued to throw up, my muscles seemed to give out, I felt like a rag doll hanging onto the railing and puking over the edge. And then my muscles DID give up – and I lost all control over my bladder and bowls … right there, in public.
I don’t think I’ve ever been so embarrassed in my entire life! A 48 year old adult woman behaving like a drunk teenager – and there was absolutely NOTHING I could do about it.
To this day I’m eternally grateful to the bar lady who came to my rescue, got me out of there and helped me clean myself up. She also mentioned the probability of me having been spiked as she knew I had only had less than two drinks, and pointed out who she thought it may have been (she knew most of the people in the place so was able to guess).
It all goes to show – it doesn’t matter what age you are, whether you’re out with your partner or just girls, these people don’t care. I don’t know what they hoped to achieve by spiking me, I just know I’m really glad I wasn’t alone or with younger friends who may not have realised what was happening.
